?Hiring a CEO is a gamble. Even a talented candidate may not fit into the corporate culture or perform as any rational person might have expected him to.? ? Tyler Cowen, Wall Street Journal OnlineAccountabilityIn many cases CEO?s operate autonomously. Even if a board oversees the operation of the company, the CEO still maintains very little guidance regarding the day-to-day affairs of the firm. This situation creates an often volatile employment atmosphere for upper management personnel and trickles down to middle management and beyond.Current Statistics indicate approximately 1% of CEO?s are removed from their position due to mismanagement while decreased earnings in many companies should indicate a problem at the top.Flexibility?Choosing the right company, the right job, the right boss, the right environment?all (of those choices) can sometimes be the difference.? - Herb BaumFollowing substantial debacles in other large, but failed, firms such as Enron it is increasingly apparent a new method of finding a CEO that will match the goals and atmosphere of today?s business environs may be required. Where a CEO has typically been adept at good management skills more is required in the twenty-first century.Adaptability?I have to be able to talk with the technical person as well as the business person and the financial person.? ? Nick Francis, CEOWith the increase in a consumer-centric marketing environment it is possible that a growing amount of marketing staff may be suited for CEO positions. It is important to note that many analysts agree marketing skills alone won?t likely result in a CEO position. Business interests are still interested in a well-rounded prospect.?Reinventing the wheel is sometimes the right thing, when the result is the radial tire.? - Jonathan GilbertWheel Reinvention for CEO ProcurementThe CEO Registry (www.ceoregistry.com) provides the technology and innovation to assure absolute privacy for both CEO?s as well as employers. This is accomplished by the creation of an atmosphere that encourages discussion and support through anonymity. With a committed emphasis on qualified candidates coupled with compatibility concerns, a CEO search through CEO Registry can provide a new means of important dialogue with CEO prospects increasing the likelihood that a match may be realized. The usefulness of CEO Registry may lie in the ability to move quickly through the discovery phase and pare down your list of candidates in a highly streamlines process. The end result is the greater likelihood that your CEO will be more compatible and in place sooner than other traditional methods of CEO procurement.

We?ve all heard that old saying, ?time is money.? When it comes to time spent at work, it couldn?t be more true. Managing your time at the office as efficiently as possible makes a big difference in your effectiveness?and your bottom line. Here, we?ll go over a few tips on how to streamline your time management at work.Organize your desk. If you can barely see the surface of your desk for all the paper, you need to reorganize. Many people with messy desks will insist that they ?know where everything is??but this is in fact rarely true, especially if it?s documentation for a project that?s been on the back burner for a while. Over time, you?ll waste hours just looking for things that should be easy to locate. To get back in shape, set aside an hour to a day?or even more, depending on how chaotic your desk is?to sorting, filing, and organizing your office. You?ll need a filing system that works for you. Put everything within easy reach?you should never have to spend more than thirty seconds locating a single piece of paper. Even though you may feel like you don?t have the time to pay attention to organization, this investment of time will pay you back over the long run.Delegate when you can. High-achieving business owners and managers often hate to delegate, because they feel out of control when they?re not doing everything themselves. However, strong and effective leaders know the strengths of their employees?and how to rely on those strengths to best advantage. If you feel overloaded in your tasks, delegate to trusted employees when you can. Choose someone who?s eager to prove herself, but who also isn?t too inexperienced to do a good job?and when you can, choose employees who have talents to match the task.Schedule e-mail time. Constantly checking email is just another way of procrastinating on other things. Turn off the automatic notification feature on your email?it kills concentration?and only check your email two or three times per day. That way, you won?t feel like e-mail is taking up all your time at work.Get rid of your paper in-box. If a document crosses your desk that you have to take care of, handle it now?don?t set it in a ?to-do? pile. We all tend to procrastinate with paperwork?but the more quickly you get it done, the less you?ll feel like it?s controlling your life. Don?t let paperwork sit on your desk for more than a day if you can possibly help it.Make sure you have the right software. If your business management involves a lot of software?spreadsheets, documents, data management systems?you could be wasting a lot of time just transitioning from one program to the next. Look for a software solution that combines mutually compatible programs that take care of all your data management needs. The best ones include tracking features that will let you keep track of time, efficiency, defects, financial information, and other information crucial to your business?s effectiveness. That way, you?ll be able to manage all relevant data, track your time, and make sure you?re running your business as efficiently as possible.Crucial time management is crucial to your bottom line and to your work-life balance. Get it right, and you?ll work efficiently and have time left over for your family and yourself. Get it wrong, and you can start to feel like your work is taking over your life. Follow these tips, and you should be able to get it all done?with time to spare.

Buying accounting software can be quite a cumbersome exercise at times. There is a never-ending list of the companies offering such software and each one of them comes with a specific consumer group in mind. Therefore, if you do not fall in the group the company in question has aimed its product at, it is very likely that the product would not suit your needs to a very large extent. Therefore, while choosing an accounting software, one needs to go step-by-step so that the search is organized and one ends up getting the best deal. Here is how you should go about it:1.Always start with jotting down your needs. What is your purpose and what features would suit your needs best must be the key aspects of your search.2.Ignore product reviews and do not be fascinated by what the press or the media says about a product because there is no point in buying the best in the market without having any need for most of its valuable features.3.Instead of looking at the top few products, have a good look at the entire range of software available and carefully examine their key features in view of your needs.4.Make a list of all the software available and then start the process of elimination on the basis of key features of each of them. Remove those that either do not meet your needs well or are a little too expensive as compared to the others.5.Once you have found a software that meets all of your needs, look for other options in the same price range and see what they offer in addition to the necessary features. If there is a software that offers all that you need and some more for the same price, go for it.6.There are companies that might offer cheaper products and also some additional features for the same price. However, it is better to go for a product by a reputed company than settling down for something cheap made by an obscure establishment. Cheap products might work at times, but mostly they turn out to be heavy on maintenance and are a source of bother day in and day out. It thus makes sense to purchase an accounting software by a known company even if it is a bit expensive and is not very high on additional features.7.And lastly, you are going for an accounting software to ease your burden. So, if a software adds to your burden, the whole exercise itself is futile. Therefore, be careful and discerning while choosing an accounting software.

This article is from your MYB Consultancy, Business Consulting and Coaching for small business owners, in fact any business ownerPosition your TeamA successful small business owner and a 1st Class Team leader positions their Team.Business and personal growth are critical to all business owners so I ask all business owners ? Do you position your team? How many times have I seen small business owners ?expect? their team to step up to the line WITHOUT giving them all an outline of the game plan. They don?t know what to do. My consultancy team sees it all the time in small business. Can you imagine that a successful sports coach neglects to give his players an outline of the match play?. Do you think that his team expects him to give them an outline? Successful sports teams always have a game plan that both the coach and the players know.As a small business owner and a 1st Class Team leader part of your role is to actually ?coach? your team. How good a coach are you? When you share your plans with them they know what you want and they can be clear about what they are expected to deliver.Positioning is mandatary if you want clarity, cohesion, commitment, motivation and success.Let me share a very recent consulting experience I have had with a client?.The pressure decreased rapidly when everyone knew …Two compatible small business owners, armed with their businesses made a commitment to bring their businesses into one entity. A beneficial move for each party. This took a couple of months of negotiating and planning. For obvious and valid reasons everyone agreed to keep the plans secret until they were ready to make their public announcement. How difficult was it during this time? Very difficult! No one could be positioned to help and support the changeover process. Effectively, these two business owners had to function in a space that was somewhat like a vacuum. They couldn?t share what they were doing in any way ? they couldn?t ask for information, they had to do it all themselves. You get the picture. The pressure was building up. Mainly due to the extra work created negotiating and planning, together with their very real need to keep up all their normal activities. Look normal at all costs! If they could have positioned their team, that is, told them what was happening they could have used their assistance. Although in this case there was no alternative, what I want you to realise is that when the news was released pressure dissipated exponentially.Imagine creating this situation when you don?t need to!Why would you neglect to tell your team what?s going on in the business. I don?t know, but I do know our consultancy sees this neglect in small business over and over and over. So many Team Leaders (business owners) neglect to do this then wonder why there?s pressure, frustration and tension running rampant around the place. All you have to do to keep the pressure and frustration levels down ? is to POSITION the players. It?s just that simple. Both the team leader and the team will benefit enormously and you will get support, energy and results from your team.Learn everything you can about Empowering Your Team.More tips for becoming a successful small business owner click here http://www.businesscoachingsite.comPosition Your TeamMaster Your Business

The success of any business relies heavily on the competency and ability of the manager. That is why managers are usually given the most ardent and difficult task of directly supervising the business? operations, dealing with staff, getting into negotiations with potential business partners for deals and making sure the overall well being of the firm is maintained. Those would be enough to justify the usually attractive compensation provided to them. That way, more kids are aspiring to be tough and effective managers someday. Business management is a profession gaining more popularity as people and economies continue to realize their contributions not just to the progress of a company, but to the entire economy. But it pays to be a business manager. To be one, you should acquire and develop effective problem solving skills. Yes, managers are first and foremost, problem solvers.Problem solving skillsDifferent managers and experts have been coming up with their own problem solving skills. It is inevitable because that is mankind?s nature—to improve what is already widely used norms and practices.Practically, all problem solving skills and practices are derived from the most basic problem solving processes most popularly known in the academe as the scientific approach. It could be inferred that Science in general, regardless of specific branch or discipline, has forced men to come up with a systematic approach to problem solving. Thus, the scientific approach to problem solving, being the basic process, is very potent and effective in putting solutions to every challenges, especially in businesses.Scientific approachAs refresher, it would help a lot if you would be reoriented to these scientific problem solving steps:1. Know the problem.2. Gather pertinent data and information regarding that problem or issue.3. Formulate/ Devise a hypothesis. This will serve as a guide that would give direction to your problem-solving effort.4. Test and do activities and tasks that would help you prove the validity of your scientific guess.5. Make a striking and practical conclusion. It follows that when you arrive to this stage, the solution to your problem is already established. After doing the steps, you could now solve the problem more effectively. Encountering the same problem again in the future would never be a problem. The SWOT analysisIn the management discipline, business schools and most practitioners are using what they call the SWOT analysis in making sure their business is headed to success.Success is not only achieved through physical hard work. Mental processes and skills are very essential when a manager aims to make the business successful. You may be wondering what SWOT analysis is. SWOT is an acronym, more of a mnemonic devised to make the concept of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats easier to remember.Usually, SWOT analysis is employed by managers when they are putting up a business. But the practice is very flexible that managers of existing companies are widely employing it when they are facing challenges over the business? operations, prospects and profitability. To do so, enumerate the Strengths the business currently has. Then, list all the Weaknesses, or those gray areas where the business is not really doing well at.Opportunities foreseen in the future are listed, in contrast to the threats, or the pitfalls and dangers the business is expected to encounter along the way.By simply doing that, you could have the relevant data that would lead to you to a simple analysis to solve your business? problems and challenges.Indeed, success of every business is attainable only is the managers would pay particular attention to details and would try to flex their mental muscles for some analyses.
